When I first heard about blogging, 1. I didn’t really know what it all meant and 2. I thought blogging would never be something I would do! A couple of years later, and here we are celebrating MY BLOG’S 1st birthday… Hmm never say never I guess. to be honest, blogging seemed like some strange form of narcissistic exposure at first. Why would people want to tell the world what they are doing/cooking/thinking every week? Do we really care? What a waste of time, do I really want the world to know me that well?
However when I was seeking a medium for my own purposes (food in case you haven’t guess by now) I discovered blogging really is the perfect way to go. I found that you can write in ways that would not work for print, it’s so immediate (you don’t have to wait for the next publication to come out, and one press of a button and your blog is published (with no editors breathing down you neck.) Plus it’s nice to have a creative outlet, writing to me helps to consolidate the constant mind chatter into something more productive perhaps…
“Writing is a form of therapy; Sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, escape the madness, the melancholia and the panic which is inherent in the human condition” Grahm Green. Here here Mr Green! Couldn’t have put it better myself.
The only thing I don’t like about blogs, is the word itself. It’s not a very sophisticated word for such an increasingly technical medium. I heard somewhere that the word ‘blog’ started by someone calling it a ‘weblog’ and then another separated ‘weblog’ into ‘we blog’ and voila! Blog it is… unfortunately.
After doing a little reading on it, I also learnt one can get themselves into quite a bit of strife for saying the wrong thing on their blog!
A little interesting bit of trivia from Wikipedia explains:
“In Singapore, two ethnic Chinese were imprisoned under the country’s anti-sedition law for posting anti-Muslim remarks in their blogs.
After expressing opinions in his personal blog about the state of the Sudanese armed forces, Jan Pronk, United Nations Special Representative for the Sudan, was given three days notice to leave Sudan.
In Myanmar, Nay Phone Latt, a blogger, was sentenced to 20 years in jail for posting a cartoon critical of head of state Than Shwe.
Yes well, I will definitely stick to writing about food! Hopefully won’t do any time behind bars for it either – if I did, it would probably be worth it given the amount of fun I have had blogging over this past year (well maybe not but hey you get my drift?)
So if you could change the name ‘blog’ to something else, what would it be?

Hi Johanna,
Congratulations with your 1 year anniversary!! I will reach that milestone in a few days myself.
I know exactly what you mean about (the need of) writing about food and blogging seems to be a good outlet for people who think and talk food. I can´t think of an alternative word for blog right now. It does sound a bit vulgar or totally glamourless, but it is short and therefore easy to use.
Success for the 2nd year!
Thank you for the birthday message Kaili! I agree, it is easy to use.
Congrats on the one year of blogging Joh. Glad to be part of it
Happy Birthday Johanna! It must feel wonderful to have one year under your belt! Loving youe photos and adventures. Look forward to more!
Bonjour Johanna
Bonne anniversaire to your Blog! Your personality comes shining through your stories and recipes as you punctuate them with your LOL humour. I really enjoy reading about your personal journey through these recipes, the photos are wonderful additions.
By the way I bought some books through the Amazon site on your blog about French cooking. Great!

Hi, congratulations on your first anniversary. I think your blog is great. I will be moving to Perth in December and cannot wait. Although I did not grow up on a cattle farm, I did spend a lot of time on a farm growing up. We also ate seasonally and never experienced a take away until I was in my teens! I totally share your view on food. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Blogaversary Johanna, I am glad I foudn your blog. All the best for the next year and I am looking forward to reading through your archives and future posts!
Thank you to all for your birthday messages!!!
